We have many county programs for youth to be involved in. Some of those programs are County Food Show, Ag Awareness Day, Safety Day, and the Kerr 4-H Judging Contests.
Kerr County Food Show and Food Challenge
Every year the youth who are involved in the Food and Nutrition Project have the chance to compete against fellow county 4-H members in a Food Show and Food Challenge competition. The Food and Nutrition Project teach the youth about My Plate, Food Safety, Knife Safety, and how to work as a team. The Food and Nutrition Boot Camp will be meeting September 24th and October 14th. Ag Awareness Day
Ag Awareness Day is a program for Kerr County 4th graders in May at the Hill Country Youth Event Center. Youth are bused from local schools to the Event Center to learn all about agriculture and how it is incorporated in our day to day lives. Kerr 4-H members volunteer to be line leaders and instructors to help teach the 4th graders all about goats, sheep, cattle, crops, fisheries, soil, water, and so much more. Kerr 4-H partners with the Kerr County Farm Bureau to make this day a success!
Safety Day
Safety Day is a program for Kerr County 3rd graders in May at the Hill Country Youth Event Center. Youth are bused from local schools to the Event Center to learn about safety from local community members and organizations. Kerr 4-H members volunteer to be line leaders and help instructors teach the 3rd graders about safety with animals, bicycles, firearms, ATV/UTVs, fire, water, and much more. This is a great opportunity for youth to learn how to protect themselves and those around them.
Kerr 4-H Judging Contests
The Kerr 4-H Judging Contests are open to 4-H members across the state of Texas. This is a practice contest for the senior division youth to participate in before State competition in June and for younger youth to have contest experience.
