Youth Livestock Projects

Livestock Projects

Many 4-H members are involved with a livestock project. A livestock project involves purchasing, housing, caring for, and showing a livestock animal. Livestock animals can
be a breeding or market animal, which generally includes lambs, goats, swine, and cattle. Livestock projects start at the beginning of the 4-H year, so this is a project
that needs to be decided on during the summer. Validation tags must be purchased for livestock projects and validated by the Kerr County Validation Committee. Call the
Kerr County Extension Office for more information on tags and validation.

There are many other livestock shows youth are able to participate in. If a youth requires an excuse absence letter sent to the schools for livestock shows, parents must
reach out to the Kerr County Extension Office with dates the youth will be out of school. UIL rules of eligibility will be enforced by the Kerr County Extension Office.

The Kerr 4-H has a Project Barn available for 4-H members to house their livestock project (lambs, goats, swine), who other wise would not be able to participate. Contact Mike Morris at the Kerr County Extension Office for more information.
